A Happy New Year to Here_I_Am and everyone! ...Hi Jean, thank you for always offering info. Are you gonna see the upcoming tour in Germany? Isn't it so far from Belgium there? The shows in Tokyo next month will be held at the nightclubs called the live-house, where we can have a meal or drinking before the show. The Degrees is performing periodically there in the past several years, but compared with the place of the tour in last December, it is small one a little. The Degrees has two shows a night and about 200 persons gather for each show. A audience's age group is broad between 20 and 60. Not a few people stand up and boogie dance from the beginning of the show. It's always a very hot place! How is a male-and-female ratio of the audience in Europe? The Japanese one is half-and-half. Listening to the album "The Three Degrees Live", I guess there were more guys than ladies... |

Hi, Here_I_Am...I have not got the single "There For You" yet. I ordered it, waiting its arriving...That must be a beautiful one. The song "Maybe" is popular on the "The best girl groups of all time" thread. I heard there still exist previously unreleased tracks on the Roulette. I wish these several tracks would be released as the CD "Roulette Years 2". |

REV - GENTING - MALAYSIA Date 1 January 2005 (Saturday) Time 8.00pm Venue Arena of Stars Soul vocal group, The Three Degrees performed to over 3,000 fans at Arena of Stars on New Years Day. The three ladies, despite being in their golden years, still had the superb strong vocals which won them legions of fans back in the 70s. The Three Degrees performed more than ten songs during the concert and among the top hits rendered were Higher, Take Care, Woman In Love, Dirty Ol' Man and If You Don't Know Me By Now among others. They reappeared on stage after the audience's Encore, with the all time favourite song, When Will I See You Again, which got the audience on their feet, swaying their arms to the music. The original lineup of Three Degrees consisted of Fayette Pickney, Shirley Porter and Linda Turner. Member left and new ones joined. Today we have Valerie Holiday, Helen Scott and Cynthia Garrison, who remain the talk of the town wherever they perform.

Does anyone have any information on a one-shot single that The Three Degrees released on Warner Brothers in 1968 called 'Contact'? I've got a copy of it and it's excellent! I don't know much about this particular group but 'Contact' is one of the best things that I've heard by them. I love the "2001: A Space Odyssey" sound effects thought the song. It's an excellent record from beginning to end! I'm surprised that it hasn't been mentioned yet. Please excuse me if it has. I also was wondering if anyone can suggest some good AND SOULFUL slow jams that the group recorded in the late 70's/early 80's. I've never cared for the song 'When Will I see You Again' but I'm sure that they have some gems tucked away on those late 70's albums. Unfortunately I haven't heard them yet. |

"Contact" is a northern soul classic which fetches alot of money whenever a copy becomes available! It shows the group's vocal strength and tight harmonies which is even more impressive considering it was one of the first recordings they made with the classic line -up of Fayette, Sheila and Valerie. They recorded a couple of other tracks on Warner Brothers which have also been released on CD so check them out! Their late 70s albums where basically disco-orientated being produced by Giorgio Moroder but listen to "Woman in Love" on the "New Dimensions" album and also "Without You" on the "3D" album - these tracks are available on any "Greatest Hits" album of the Group which shows their diversity! For REAL soul, check out the Japanese-only released "Toast of Love" album from 1976 - way ahead of its time and a absolute classic! Enjoy! J x |

hi rodmann...in '77 there was the album "Standing up for love" on Epic records that has some beautifull ballads like " in love we grow, We're all alone, Just leave me alone and What i did for love, there was also " album of love" in '82 with ballads such as "a sonnet to love, I only have eyes for you, Only those in love, Dear God and Hard to say i'm sorry" In '!ç they released on Ichiban records the cd" and holding" with ballads such as " a tender lie and Make it easy on yourself" And have you heard the theme song from the movie" Diamonds" IN '76 ENJOY...

Thanks for the info Here_I_Am. Would you consider those ballads to be SOUL ballads? The girls always did have beautiful harmonies but I'd like to hear what they sounded like on a soulful, slow jam type number like 'Who Can I Run To' by The Jones Girls or 'Pick Up The Pieces' by Mary Wilson. I'm not familiar with the "Diamonds" theme song. The image on the "What I Did For Love" LP is the same as the one I saw on the "Toast Of Love" cover? Does anyone know exactly how the "Toast Of Love' LP came about and why it was only released in Japan? Thanks in advance. |

Before the 3 degrees released "Toast Of Love" album, they had done in Japan two studio recording singles and a live recording album. Those singles and album got a big success and I think it led the studio sessions to record an album here. In fact the CBS/Sony records(the distributing label in Japan at that time) pushed them more than any other oversea artist then. There mentioned on the obi of "Toast Of Love" that the album was going to be released over the world. I don't know the reason why that would not be achieved. It's pity... |

hi treble_clef... the concert was fab! the supremes closed the show, so the three degrees were the opening act BUT they were received very good. especially, helen, she made some good jokes. something like... "we are the one and only, the original... SUPREMES". lol... and val sung "woman in love" like never before, wow ! after the concert we tried to see the ladies BUT we could only find scherrie, lynda & freddi ! by the way, freddi, oooh, what a nice lady. the others also, but more reserved. also, all their fans, went to the plaza hotel in antwerp and, we've had a wonderful after midnight period in the bar with our lovely cindy. we talked, laughed, drunk and took two pictures (hehe, 1 degree). valerie and helen were already in dreamland (we think... hehehe). so, hopefully we can catch them next time or whatever. we understand that the degrees are back in little belgium, 25th june, two times that day ! maybe, maybe, maaaaaaaaaybe... (you know the song - lol) |

yes Treble Clef.....i think we all want something new from the Degrees....Valerie did a solo charity single last year in the UK, a song with a Christmass feeling, "THERE FOR YOU" written by Mark Berry, produced by CHARLES DEGRAFT-JOHNSON.....and the vocals donated and arranged by Valerie Holiday. This month the Degrees are touting Germany ,Holland and Belgium. One of the "GOLDEN OLDIES shows in Germany has been recorded for tv broadcast. |

I wrote a song with the Three Degrees in mind a couple of years ago: www.melkman.com/carlsmusic/det roit/degree.mp3 I wanted something that had a modern beat, but guitar licks from Philly and a 'KC' flavour from the mid to late 70's. I would love to exploit the song with them! Who knows.... |

Thank you, here I am! Yes I have Philly in mind with the rhythm track and of course The Three Degrees style of delivery. I could tweak it and do a 'circa 1965 Swan' version which would be nice, but much slower of course. The foot tappers could listen to the dance track and the’ balladeers’ the slow version. Two for the price of one, no less...... |

I'm not interested in what and how and why the ladies broke with mr. Barrett. It's way back in the past, it's a private matter and life goes on. Also (my opinion), ms. Victoria Wallace has the right to decide what to do in her life. Ofcourse, as anyone would do, she uses her 'ex-membership' for her solo career. She's a great singer. What mr. Barrett concerns; there exists an interview broadcasted on British television where Helen & Valerie tells the viewers that mr. Barrett owns the right of the name Three Degrees in the US. In the same program we also see mr. Barrett. There, he respond to the name question that he don't want other singers to us use that name, over and over again... But, when you visit the website of ms. Wallace someone could say that (my opinion again) HE is using the name whenever he can for commercial reasons. For me it's very clear: Valerie, Helen and Cindy are the one and only. After several decades of singing, they are the only owners of the name; whatever 'the court' decided. And what I think; if mr. Barrett looks deep in his hart, he knows that. Again, this is my humble opinion. Follow this link and, for the first time on the net, see this interview of the ladies. Glamour and glitter with beautiful voices ! WOW. http://users.skynet.be/ginomon s If you like this, pls, let me know. |

Hey JayJay, thx. Yes I already received a message from Japan that they like it too. Yezzz, that second clip... indeed they used the original recordings - nevertheless, great performance ! I remember that day very good when it came on TV. 13th of july 1992 - why ? Because the same night the ladies travelled from the Netherlands to Belgium. Not far from my hometown in a disco called "Carré". That's were I saw the girls for the first time in my live after the show. Together with other fans. A night I will never forget ! Also, I still believe that my father (55 yrs), who died fourteen days before that night, made it possible from heaven. He knew how long I waited to see the group. Bless his soul, I LOVE YOU DAD ! There was not the new song in particular, but they and their American band devised it in the first and the second shows. Three songs("I Love Music", "Giving Up, Giving In" and "Year Of Decision") in the first show changed into the others("Shake Your Groove Thing","Get Your Love Back" and "I Wish") in the second. It was wonderful as usual. |

Hi, Gino. I thought so, too but actually no, to my disappointment. This is only a shot from the show, neither a vinyl nor an LP jacket. This photo was shot in '75 when the ladies were invited to the show as guest performers and in '74 they won Gold Prize with When Will I See You Again, yay! |

Here is a good Three Degrees question for you all? I heard Valerie's interview on the radio. Why is it that no one acknowledges members and contributions to the group before 1967 and after 1976 since that was the time period of Sheila, Fayette, and Valerie? Cause on the air she stated the line up solidified when she came in which is the truth but turned around and said her, Fayette, and Sheila were the originals? She did say Helen returned in 1976 though..It gets confusing..And Weldon said he was there when the group started which states in the record books they started in 1963 |

don't be jealous Eva...hahaha, i follow them from 1973, they're a part of my life, and with some of them, like Valerie Holiday, Sheila Ferguson and Fayette Pinkney, we have built a friendship...and when we meet, it's amazing, but there's always time for a chat, taking photos and interest in what we do, and it has to be said, that we're lucky, that The Three Degrees are still around, and that Sheila has a busy solo carreer..the Degrees are working on two projects, Sheila released a wonderfull solo album and is now the star of a panto called CINDERELLA... and Valerie did a solo performance for charity with her beautifull song" There For You"...on the programm "Children in Need" in the UK. Merry Christmas ....everyone. |

Back indeed - and no matter what any other threads here may imply, or accuse, or maline - there is and will only ever be one collection of people who made this Group what it is...FAYETTE, SHEILA, VALERIE, HELEN AND CYNTHIA - the ladies of the only and only THREE DEGREES...and NOTHING that can be said and done will ever change that. Business is business....BUT TALENT IS TALENT. |

interesting information on The Three Degrees, now somebody (I wish I could) must do a "tribute" to our Motown Stars, The Original Supremes (Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, and lets not forget Cindy Birdsong), it has been a long time since I have seen and read a tribute to the true leading ladies of Motown Records. |

Hello there, sending this message from Japan.I saw one of the ladies shows at Cotton Club in Tokyo for the first time. Since I missed the last shows from February, it seemed years to me. The ladies were really fabulous. Helen, leading the audience to a relaxed atmoshere with lots of laugher and fun by her speech, Valerie making us impressed with her singing as always, and Cynthia showing her energetic singing and dancing which made us well excited. Now they're on the way to Holland. I wonder what the song listings and dresses and talks will be like. Can you guys in Holland perhaps tell me about it later? Thanks. |
