Years ago I posted a clip of the Rascals doing "Mickey's Monkey". Here is the full performance with Felix, Eddie, Gene & Dino giving Smokey & the Miracles' hit the Rascals treatment along with Bobby "Blue" Bland's "Turn On Your Lovelight". If there's any question as to how powerful the Rascals were in a live setting back in the day, this clip gives the answer....and then some. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =qd_BEqg8wvc Kevin Goins - KevGo |

There are some great youtube clips if you troll around some. Loved the Rascals. Felix was a big influence on my singing. |

I had no IDEA Gene Cornish could move like that! He looked like he was a little awkward or looking for moral support but he held his own, nice to see him getting upfront with the background vocals. I knew Eddie moved but I have never seen Gene move like that. |

Stephanie: Eddie & Gene out front moved so damned smoothly during their gigs, it was scary. This clip gave the audience only an inkling of how powerful the Rascals performed in a live setting. RTA: Having Gene Cornish come out of my hometown of Rochester NY (graduated from Franklin High School) and into the Rascals made many of us back in Upstate NY very proud of him and his colleagues. I'm glad they got back together one more time recently (thanks to Steven Van Zandt) before parting ways again. Kevin: Have you heard of a band called the Brass Buttons? They came out of Rochester NY and recorded for Atlantic Records the same time the Rascals recorded for the label. The B.B.'s lead singer was a cross between Felix Cavaliere & the Righteous Brothers' Bill Medley. Like you, the Brass Buttons looked to the Rascals for inspiration. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Stephanie: Felix did have a great voice but let's give major props to Eddie Brigati as well. He sang lead on their hits "How Can I Be Sure" (#3 Pop - 1967)as well as the band's first single "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore". Eddie's co-lead vocals on the hit "Love Is A Beautiful Thing" and the group's version of "Temptation 'Bout To Get Me" are priceless as well. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

I didn't get The Beatles or The Stones but I got America and The Rascals. The Rascals have a lot of great songs that I like. It's A Beautiful Morning is a classic and what I call a perfect song. |

Point well taken Kevgo. Also the Rascals were the only group who went psychedelic whose sounds I liked. Nubia and all of that stuff they didnt get corny like the Beatles did. Yellow Submarine and all of their trippy stuff hurts my ears, the Rascals got mellow but they were not acidic. |

Mr. June: I'm in absolute agreement with you regarding "(It's A) Beautiful Morning". It was the perfect sequel to "Groovin" and is probably my favorite Rascals single. Stephanie: Felix Cavaliere was a big jazz fan and composed many tunes with jazz influences during the Rascals' heyday with Atlantic. "It's Love" from the Groovin album is a fine example as well as "Nubia". Kevin Goins - KevGo |

"Eddie's co-lead vocals on the hit "Love Is A Beautiful Thing" and the group's version of "Temptation 'Bout To Get Me" are priceless as well." Uh oh!! We've got a real Rascals fan here. I also LOVED the 2 above songs. They are among my favorites. That's GREAT that Gene Cornish came from your town Kevin. Eddie sure did contribute big time with their hits and their more obscure songs too. I love the job he did on the Box Tops "The Letter" from the "Search and Nearness" album. I also love songs like "I Believe" from the first album, "More", "Since I Fell For You" and "A Place in the Sun". He was a great dancer and a great background singer too! And what about the funkmaster Dino Danelli on those drums? WOW! He always said that he loved Gene Krupa and that he was a major influence on him. |

"Felix Cavaliere was a big jazz fan and composed many tunes with jazz influences during the Rascals' heyday with Atlantic."It's Love" from the Groovin album is a fine example as well as "Nubia"." Yes he is a big jazz fan. He continued that influence even after the departure of Eddie and Gene in the "Peaceful World" and "Island of Real" lps with "Love Letter" and "Lament" respectively. I must admit though, I loved the original Rascals stuff the best. I sure wish I could have been at the concert almost 4 months ago. |

Aww man... I thought that this was about Spanky, Alfalfa, Stymie, Darla & The International Silver String Submarine Band! Both sets of Rascals were "Groovin'", which means that "It's Wonderful". "How Can I Be Sure"? Well it's "A Beautiful Morning" & there's nothing like "Good Lovin'"! |
