July 27, 2010 SoulMusic.com Update www.soulmusic.com Update Hi everyone! We trust all is well with each and every one of you. We regret to inform you that, after much deliberation, we have decided to cease operation of the Soulmusicstore at this time. While we certainly appreciate our loyal customers, there has not been enough demand in the marketplace to maintain a profitable venture. The struggling worldwide economy has definitely played a part in this scenario, as well as the inconsistent release schedule of reissued R&B music. Soulmusic.com will continue as always. Our team is making plans to develop our community with events that will be announced in the coming months. We are also making great progress with Soulmusic.com's reissue label with several soulful projects in the pipeline for this year while we're securing licenses for some amazing music that is still lingering in record company vaults. We will continue to update you regularly and will still post new releases and titles of interest on Soulmusic.com. There is a new Soulmusic.com Store link at the top of the home page. We will continue operating Soulmusicstore.com until Friday July 30, 2010 liquidating the inventory on hand. We will only be taking orders from the Inventory Clearance page until then. For this week's regular Soulmusic.com updates, we have a long awaited interview by Darnell Meyers-Johnson with the soulful LEELA JAMES, discussing her latest CD, "My Soul" and her new relationship with STAX Records. Our new contributor, UK Soul/Reggae DJ Angie interviews British sensation BASHIYRA, who sheds light on her music industry experiences and her debut solo release, "Thought You Knew." Terry Joe reviews the recent QUEENS OF AMERICAN SOUL concert at IndigO2, and DJ Lewis Dene reviews the latest OHIO PLAYERS reissue "Angel" / "Jass-Ay-Lay-Dee" Dedicated to Soul will return later this week. In the meantime, you can check out our archive of past shows right here - a tremendous source of great music for your listening pleasure. Coming soon - interviews with MARLENA SHAW, LYFE JENNINGS and more. Thanks as always for your support for the site - it is always much appreciated! We are, as always, Soulfully yours, David, Michael, Jeff F and the www.soulmusic.com Crew (Darnell, Justin, Angie Dee, K. Bonin, Soul Jones and Penelope K.) This is the fine print text where you might tell your customers how the item will be shipped and, for example, if they are overseas that there will be additional shipping charges and must contact you. Although I applauded their efforts to strive to offer a good selection of soul and related cd's, I have always been reluctant to order from soulmusicstore.com because their prices were substantially higher than Amazon et al. If you want to support an independent record store, try dustygroove.com for an unrivaled selection at very competitive prices. |

Glad you posted this, Jobeterob. I received this email, skimmed through it, deleted it, and totally missed that they were ceasing operations. I haven't ordered from them much in recent years for the same reason as Whitesoxx, but it is very sad that they are closing. David Nathan personally called me once because I was having trouble with his website, and he wanted to find out what the problem was. At least they are keeping the reissue label going. |

It's unfortunate that the Soul Music Store had to close. I had ordered from them a couple of times. They had a great selection. I ordered Dionne Warwick's Hot Live & Otherwise CD from them just now, since it was marked as $10 clearance. I had been wanting to get it for a while, as it's a great album. The hits medley is fantastic. Her vocals are on fire. |

This is sad news. David Nathan turned me onto, and indeed sold me HUGELY expensive imports at Contempo records at Hanway street London, many eons ago. Cost me a fortune. But then, I wouldnt have been blessed with Blues and Soul Magazine, and his articles, and parting with yet more money for yet more of the latest, greatest releases. SERIOUSLY, If it wasnt for him, I doubt i would have discovered Thelma Houston, Ashford and Simpson, Phyllis Hyman, and need I say more? Good luck to you all..Paulo |

So true, Paulo. David Nathan and his Soul Music Store was also responsible for introducing me to Phyllis Hyman, Ledisi, etc. |
