Wow, totally agree with DLM's choices, so I cut and pasted his and added a few:

It's Summer - The Temptations
Hot Fun In The Summertime - Sly
Groovin' - the Young Rascals
Summer In The City - Lovin' Spoonful
All Day Music - War
Endless Summer Nights -- Richard Marx (and yeah, I know it's cheesey, but I like it)

Also two great ones I agree with on this thread:
Long Hot Summer -- The Style Council -- highly underated song
The Summer Wind -- Sinatra, great choice Ralph!

Ronnie McNeir has a tremendous one, Summertime Medley II (an update from an earlier song), it's awesome.

I like Billy Stewart's version of "Summertime" the best. Lots of energy there!

Great thread.

I have so many favorite summer songs, but I recently found a song by the McCrarys on a compilation CD. The song is called "Love on a Summer Night," and it is FANTASTIC! I don't know anything else by this group, or even if there's anything else available by them on CD, but I'd be grateful for a push in the right direction if anyone knows!

Mike Sku, the McCrarys had a single on Portrait called You that I've heard and liked.
Stevie Wonder supplied harmonica.

There might have been a McCrarys compilation CD available in the late 1990s. There does not appear to be one in print now. However, there is a McCrarys title All Night Music available from Amazon.

The McCrarys were a sister & brother group
that started in gospel in Youngstown, Ohio before turning secular. Some of the McCrarys, there were a lot of them, were
peers of Motown_Fan's.

Actor Darius
McCrary (Family Matters) is from the family. He's the son of Howard McCrary, one of the McCrary males. Howard has had success in both gospel & pop music.

There is an Ann McCrary working in gospel, but i don't know if she's from the same family.

Summer song:
On the Beach - The Fifth Dimension

Wow! You folks covered some classics (soul and not, but summer classics.) Sorry if I repeat, but that's quite a list. We spend a lot of time on Lake Michigan. The day gets busy, but you always make time for the sunset.

"Dock Of The Bay" - Otis Redding (makes you ponder and be thankful)

"Shotgun" - Jr. Walker (Best played as you're rushing to dinner or a concert)

"Walk On 'Til The Sun Comes Up" - America

"Brandy" - Looking Glass

"Fugitive" (theme from TV show) & "Hawaii 5-0" - Ventures

"Castles In The Sand" - Stevie Wonder

"Bus Stop" - Hollies

"Spill The Wine" - Eric Burdon and War

"West Coast Blues" - Wes Montgomery

"Dance With You" - Beatles

"2120" - Rolling Stones

"Bernadette"

And so many more ... Even goofy ones like the themes from "Gilligan's Island," "Magnum PI" and many others that are still on televisiontunes.com

"Sunny" was sung by Bobby Hebb, in Philadelphia for Gamble and Huff. Bobby Hutton worked with Jo Armstead and Mike Terry in Chicago. Both of them have the first name Bobby, and both had releases out at the same time, on Philips Records.

One of my favorites, its like ice cold lemonade on a Hot "Bronx" Summer Night .....Mr Cuba if you please:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =MenOmqIBmIM&feature=related

Back in the day, when the radio jocks would play this record, all the kids in my neighborhood (myself included) would have an impromptu jam session singing the chorus of this beautiful song.....it all began with the word "Cornbread".....yes those were the days.....

Forgot about It's A Shame.......I believe it was summer of '72 or '73. We use to go swimmin' at Roosevelt pool and they had the radio piped in all over the place(it was an indoor pool at the time). They played that song over and over. I don't think it was a day that I went swimmin' that they didn't play that song. And I went every day!!! So when I hear that song, it takes me back to my pool days.
