This is a question I been trying to think of for a post I say this out of RESPECT, because these two soul cities we're the mecca for recording music at the time.

Jo Armstead, (Giant Records) headquartererd in Chicago, used Detroit's Mike Terry for an arranger, and to run recording sessions(Bobby Hutton,Garland Green, Rhetta Hughes). She used Detroit's Bridges, Knight and Eaton to write and produce sessions recorded in Chicago and Detroit(Brothers of Soul,Ruby Andrews, Candace Love, etc.)

Chicago's Bob Catron used Detroit's Mike Hanks to produce sessions in Chicago (Geraldine Hunt).

Chicago's Carl Davis used Detroit's Sonny Sanders to arrange and produce and Detroit's Barret Strong to write and to help on sessions, Detroit's (Motown's) Funk Bros, and other Detroit session players and The Andantes on several of his Chicago sessions (Mary Wells, Jackie Wilson, Artistics, Barbara Acklin, Chi-Lites, etc).

Chicago's Calvin Carter used Detroit's Barrett Strong to write and help run sessions (Dells, Barbara Green, Wade Flemons, etc).

Chicago's Andre Williams (Yes, he originally came from there) used Detroit's Jimmy Holland and The Four Hollidays (Holidays) and other Detroit artists while working for Randee/Markie and Blue Rock and One-Der-Ful/Mar-V-Lus and Chess Records in Chicago.

Hi Robb K,

I read a post you posted once about Bob Lee before I join the forum. In the last 6-7 years I spoken with many Chicago artist. What many people think "What's with this Bob Lee guy." He knew all the Chicagoland that makes up for the rest of the entire classic Chicago scene.
At one time or another Lee has worked with the other half of Chicago artist, which way or another he's recorded them earlier in their into their careers who's records still is reveared on the NS Scene.
Lee was a fair and business-minded person. Bob didn't always have the money to record when he wanted, when it did he'd always try record and to get the record out. I was told he'd go out of his way to work with a artist or group to get them a contract.
He could only take a artist/group as far as he could take them, and to help to take a artist to another level. I know he doesn't get kudo as a Carl Davis, but he had a history that's not given credit for his role, in the industry.

I don't have any Four Brothers Records with Andre Williams producing or even writing credits. Four Brothers was owned by Jack Daniels, as was Bright Star, Jadan, and Chi-City. Chicago's, Johnny Moore (not the ex-Drifter from New York) was his right-hand-man. Harold Burrage produced a few records for him. He also had pianist, Monk Higgins arrange and write for him, Leroy Dandridge produced a few. That goes for all Daniels' labels. I haven't seen Andre Williams on ANY of Jack Daniels' labels.

I HAVE seen Williams on the following Chicago labels: Chess, Checker, One-Der-Ful, Mar-V-Lus and M-Pac Ran-Dee, Mar-Kie, Mercury, Blue Rock and Duo Records. Of Course, he also produced for various small Detroit labels and at Motown and Golden World/Ric Tic.
