Many thanks to Cam Smith for the glowing review, on Amazon, of the book. Much appreciated, Cam.

Ralph: You beat me to the punch. Hey there could be a song in that last sentence. NAH. Probably wouldn't sell.

Anyway, the book was a great, fun read. I learn a whole lot about the inner workings of Motown and how your bro Russ worked his magic.

Great stories through-and-through.

Folks, the book is a keeper. I would read a few pages and then try to place myself in the scene and imagine how cool it must have been to be in the mixing room when both Russ and Berry Gordy were on a roll!

Highly recommended.

Just read Detroit Building Exec's "review" and the comment he added to John Lester's. What a sad and spiteful individual - a bit of a tosser really!

:-(

This individual sure seems to be grinding some sort of axe. Too bad he doesn't know much about Motown.

Got the book on Russ last week. Easy read (great pics.) Loved the memories and the thoughts that went into it.

Ralph's first book just showed up yesterday. I'm in bed at 1AM and my wife reminds me, as I'm about 60 pages in, that I have an early morning meeting (I hate getting up at 6AM!) Nothing like great memories. I like.

BTW. One of my neighbors was a cook at Lamplighter. Some stories there, too.

Voosh,
Glad you are enjoying the books. I wonder if your neighbor was working at The Lamplighter when we were spending time there waiting for the sun to come up.

Ralph,

Some stories (like, Lamplighter) are our stories to savor and remember. How much truth? How much fuzzy memory? I don't know and can only remember small details.

Heck, I was just a kid when you guys were paving the way. Special times. Indeed.

Just because Russ has a book out, doesn't mean he is excused from studio work: Russ adding acoustic rhythm guitar on today's session.

Hey little niece,
Your old man showed me, once again, that he is probably the best rhythm player I have ever worked with. He was awesome yesterday.

Hey Unc!
I can't wait to hear the finished product. He has always had an amazing talent on the guitar and can outplay anyone. It's so good to see him with a guitar again. He has that expression on his face where he is totally into the song and loving what he is feeling and creating. :-)

Smooth,
I have heard your work and Pure Silk is one way to describe you. Your voice is so incredible and can very easily be compared to the Temptations. I think you are a hidden treasure that dad and Uncle Ralph really noticed and are bringing your pure talents to light. Two songs from completion?! I am so excited!

Everyone, check this CD out when it's ready because you will be blown away! :-)

I had a great time overdubbing that guitar. It's been a long time since I picked one up. I'm also having a great time working with my brother and Abe Wilson in the studio. Making music is loads of fun.

You guys are really enjoying yourself & it comes through in these pictures.

Actually, you guys look as though you're having TOO much fun.

The next time you decide to throw a studio party, at least send an invitation. We're on the outside looking in & that's just not cricket!

juice,
You, or anyone, is more than welcome to join us in the studio. Yes, it seems we do have too much fun recording. This entire Abe Wilson "Smooth" project has been , without a doubt, the most fun I have ever had on a recording project. When you are blessed to work with extremely talented people, it just goes that way.

I received my copy yesterday...Thank you, daddy! And it was an excellent read! Dad told me a lot of those stories, well, not all of them! ;) This brought back a lot of great memories of being with dad in the studio and around so many amazing people and the things dad taught me. Thanks for the laughs and the memories!

Unc, you mentioned something about the Motown 25. It really was the best music shows ever produced for TV. I found it on DVD and watch it from time to time and still dance and sing to it. Many of the legends that performed have left us but their gifts are shining bright in what they left us. I can't say which part if my favorite. The Temptations/Four Tops rivalry (Love it!) with Levi and his facial expressions and vocals..WOW! The Jackson's and Michael blowing the world away with the Moonwalk. Marvin Gaye...WOW!!! Smooooth, as always. Stevie Wonder, Smokey, Mary Wells, Diana! And dad was a huge part in that show to make it what it was...perfect.

I really do love the book and recommend it to everyone! I'm going to take it to work and proudly show it off and market it :-) Ok yea, I am a very proud daughter and niece. Love ya!

Christie,
Glad you enjoyed the book. Yes, I do feel that Motown 25 stands as the best musical program produced for television, and your old man gets a huge heap of the credit for making that happen.

Hey Unc,
I took the book to work and showed it off to everyone and bragged about you and dad all day. How can I not?! I love Motown 25. It truly is the best music show ever and maybe I am biased but everything about it was perfection.

I stumbled across an old Jackson 5 song off their 'Get It Together' album...'Hum along and dance' and I have forgotten how incredible this song is! Rare Earth did the song and then the Jackson 5 did it, it has the same funky beat and almost an Iron Butterfly feel to it, as well. Here's the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =BKhCfnqqBbU&feature=related

By the way, everyone at work went crazy over the book! Co-workers and patients!! :-)

You know it, Unc!!
I am very proud of all you and dad have accomplished and will gladly promote everything you do. Like with the CD you and dad are working on with Abe...ya'll, when it hits the stores, seriously, get this CD. It will blow you away! I've said it before that Abe's voice is so smooth and magical and the way dad and my Unc have mastered these songs...well, WOW! I've had the privilege of hearing the songs and I just can't hear them enough. There are so many little things to hear in each song that bring it to life and it has your special touch. :-)

But seriously, the book is amazing. It brought back a lot of great memories for me, as well, and spending time at Motown and everything I learned there.

Just finished the first book (week up north got whacked and I had to read it as time permitted down here.) As I said about the book on Russ - honest (saying I don't quite remember is no sin,) detailed AND inspiring. Different opinions and views? Probably. We all remember as we remember. Write your own book or post honest thoughts here about your memories. I've done a few things in my life. I could never match what Ralph and Russ have done, the folks they worked with and the fire that's still in their bellies.

I do miss that Babbit backslap. I was wrong in an earlier post. We recorded at the "original" Tera Shirma. Aahhhh, yes!
